Question

Is CBG better than CBD?

With new CBG products available on the market, the benefits and therapeutic potentials of CBG are being highlighted to the public.

CBG is a natural compound that is present in cannabis plants. CBGA is first formed in seedlings and converted to THCA, CBDA, and CBG by enzymes as the plan matures. CBG is known for its energy-boosting and improved concentration benefits. Like CBD, CBG has several therapeutic benefits that researchers are still discovering. Keep reading to understand how CBG compared to CBD!

Since the effects and the metabolism of CBG (cannabigerol) and CBD  (cannabidiol) in our body are different, it is challenging to state which one is  better. Like THC and CBD, CBG is a natural molecule present in hemp and  cannabis plants. According to anecdotal reviews of CBG users, the effects are  energizing, improved concentration, and soothing upon consumption.

Besides, CBG is referred to as the ‘source of all cannabinoids compounds’ since  most cannabinoids come from CBGA (CBG acid). CBGA is the acidic precursor  of CBG and is found in abundance in hemp and cannabis plants.

THCA and CBDA are derived from CBGA, and only a few percentages of CBGA  are left to form CBG. Since only a tiny fraction of CBGA is left in the plants, CBG  is present at less than 1% in hemp plants and is considered a minor cannabinoid.

In contrast to THC, both CBD and CBG are not stimulating compounds and do  not cause a ‘high.’ However, all three compounds act upon the endocannabinoid  system (ECS) in humans and have different effects.

According to Frontiers in Pharmacology Journal in 2018, both CBD and CBG act  on the same receptors, known as CB1 and CB2. The study stated that both CBG  and CBD have potential soothing effects. Unfortunately, there is not enough  research that analyzed the effects of CBG compared to CBD. Yet, with the rising  popularity of CBG, more research is soon expected on the compound.

Difference between CBD & CBG?

There are several differences between CBD and CBG, namely interactions with  the ECS, concentration in hemp plants, potential therapeutic effects, and effects on the brain upon consumption. Medical Mikes has organic CBG oil soured from upstate New York Farms.

CBG

1. CBG is found in trace amounts in both cannabis and hemp plants.

2. CBGA is a cannabigerol acid is then converted into THCA or CBDA to produce THC and CBD upon heating.

3. The process of CBGA conversion occurs with the help of enzymes when the plant grows and matures.

4. Therefore, extracting a good amount of CBG from cannabis plants requires a significant quantity of cannabis plants.

5. Besides, one of the main benefits of CBG is its soothing effect on the digestive system.

6. According to the Biochemistry Pharmacology Journal, the study has shown that CBG had soothing effects on the walls of the digestive tract in mice.

CBD

 1. May take more time bind with ECS receptors, CB1 and, CBG directly interacts with the receptors.

2. CBD is mainly known for its pain-relieving properties among its users.

3. By interacting with the same receptors, CB1 and CB2, CBD helps to relieve moderate pain.

4. A study from the Journal of Pain Research in 2018 discovered that CBD could reduce pain intensity in humans.

Does CBG give you energy?

CBG is known for its energy-boosting effects that are often compared to a  caffeine rush. However, it should be noted that CBG does not have any  stimulating properties like THC.

Several users enjoy the boost in energy, concentration, and creativity that CBG  provides. Additionally, some users also state that CBG helps maintain a good  mood and manage daily stress. Others use CBG to improve their concentration over more extended periods for  increased levels of productivity. Besides, with its dropper tincture, you can easily  control the dose of CBG oil.

The combined effects of CBD and CBG ensure that users obtain the best of both  worlds; improved concentration while feeling calmed and relaxed. One great  example of combined CBD and CBG oil on the market is the Medical Mikes CBD  and CBG oil tincture.

The broader array of therapeutic benefits that both CBD and CBG provide  includes pain-relieving effects, improved digestive bowels, and may reduce  acne.  According to the British Journal of Sports Medicine, the ECS is  associated  with anandamide production during exercise. The subjects  experienced an ‘adrenaline high’ due to the increased anandamide levels in their  bloodstreams.

However, the research was not specific on CBG only but analyzed the  relationship between ECS and anandamide. The interaction could explain the  energy-boost effects of CBG among its users.

Is CBD or CBG better for sleep?

CBD has become a popular alternative to help with sleep problems compared to over-the-counter sleeping aids. In contrast, there is not much research done about the effect of CBG on sleep. However, the entourage effect of CBG on CBD may enhance the calming properties of CBD and promote healthy sleeping cycles. Therefore, it may be beneficial if both CBD and CBG are used in conjunction to tackle sleeping problems.

Additionally, research from The Permanente Journal in 2019 showed that CBD could help sleeping problems due to its calming effect on the central nervous system. Out of 72 subjects, 66.7% stated that they have a better sleep after consuming 25 mg of CBD capsule every day.

Nevertheless, researchers are still observing the effect of CBD on sleep to obtain a concrete answer about CBD’s mechanism. Yet, it should be noted that the cause of sleep disturbances may vary from person to person.
CBD may help in alleviating sleep problems, but it may not tackle the cause. Therefore, it is recommended to consult your doctor to ensure that the root of the problem is being solved instead of the symptoms only.

Can CBG be used in cooking?

One easy way of consuming CBG is through cooking or edibles. Besides, according to a study from the Biochemistry Pharmacology Journal in 2013, CBG was discovered to have soothing properties for bowel problems in mice.

The study showed that CBG had soothing effects on the colon by decreasing nitric oxide production in macrophages, a cell from the immune system. While there is no research on humans yet, the soothing effects on the digestive system may also be applied in humans.

As a result, adding a correct dose of CBG to your diet may improve the body’s digestion and metabolism of nutrients. Several delicious recipes include CBG oil, such as three mouth-watering recipes from Medical Mikes.
