CBD for Pets: Dogs and humans may look different, but we are also very the same. 19% of adults in the United States suffer from anxiety and dogs are likely around the same percentage.
Imagine being a dog and having thunder crashing down around you, or being told you can’t jump on the couch. This is enough to cause anyone anxiety, especially a dog that can’t understand you telling them “everything is going to be okay.”
As a pet owner, you want to make sure your pet is happy and healthy, and one way to help them relax and feel better is by giving your dog CBD. You may have heard of CBD before and have heard that it is related to marijuana. The difference between CBD and marijuana is that CBD is non-psychoactive and contains a maximum of .3% THC. This means it will not get you high, but offer various health benefits. CBD for pets works exactly the same way!
CBD for Dogs: What does it do?
You may have heard of CBD working in humans because of how it binds to the endocannabinoid in our bodies. The same can be said for dogs because they have the same endocannabinoid system. CBD interacts with your dog’s endocannabinoid system to help support their overall health and keep their body balance.
Here are 5 reasons you should consider giving your dog CBD.
Reason #1: Help Calm their Nerves
Anxiety is not fun for anyone, especially your poor pup. Dogs experience anxiety disproportionately compared to other animals. If you find that your dog is often scared, nervous, shaking, or panting out of the ordinary, they may be suffering from anxiety.
CBD can help to calm nerves and soothe anxiety. Whether it is a thunderstorm or simply general anxiousness, it can truly help.
Reason #2: Skin Health
Dogs love going outside. They get to smell everything, roll in the dirt, and roam freely. Unfortunately, many dogs get skin rashes or have other allergic reactions because of the great outdoors.
CBD has been seen to reduce inflammation and stress caused by rashes and even dry skin. It is essential that you soothe skin issues when you see them because if your dog is allowed to scratch it can cause an infection.
Reason #3: Aches & Pain
As dog’s age, they can develop joint pain and illnesses that cause aches and pains. They can also get hurt from running around and playing. Giving your dog CBD is a natural way to combat these aches and pains.
Reason #4: Loss of Appetite
Some dogs are sick and have no appetite, or are going through the trauma that decreases it. CBD can help give your pet their appetite back if you find they have stopped eating.
Reason #5: Help Boost Overall Health
Since CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, it helps to boost your dog’s overall health. CBD works to help your body stay balanced and run optimally, and it does the same for dogs.
How Much CBD Oil Should You Give Your Dog?
Generally, there are a few factors that determine how much CBD a dog needs. These factors depend on the severity of their condition, health, age, breed, height, as well as their weight. Most often though, when giving dogs CBD oil, most pet owners consider the size of their animal to determine the right amount.
If you are giving your dog CBD for the first time, start small with .25ml of CBD per pound of body weight. So for example, a 30lb dog can start at 7.5mg of CBD, while a larger dog of 100lbs can start at 25mg.
Should You Give Your Dog CBD?
CBD can help support your dog’s overall health. If you are a CBD user yourself, then you know how CBD can positively impact your life once it’s a part of your daily routine. Medical Mike’s was started because Mike’s dog was sick and the medication given wasn’t working so he went searching for alternatives.
CBD seemed to help relieve Torre’s (Mike’s St. Bernard) joint pains and helped her stay asleep through the night. She went on to live 13 amazing years. Mike wanted to take his positive experience with CBD and show other people how it can benefit them and their furry friends. Medical Mike’s was born and the rest is history.
We highly recommend giving your dog CBD but can’t guarantee that it’s the solution or your pet. If you want more information about giving your dog CBD, contact Mike. He is a fellow dog owner who knows how hard it is to see a dog in pain and is willing to help!
